The Summary

How can I take something so wonderful and reduce it to one paragraph? How do I put into just a few words something so close to my heart, so much a part of my future, and call it a “summary”? This summer, after years of hoping and dreaming, I finally get to spend a couple weeks studying the Bible in the lands it was created in: Egypt, Jordan, and Israel. I am going to take a sixteen-day journey, hiking hundreds of miles through places I’ve never been, seeing the Bible come to life in living color all around me, following a man who will be leading us in the same rabbinic teaching style that Jesus used. One day I will make my home here as a sojourner in these ancient and mysterious lands, and this two-week trip is a major step in that direction. I have been awarded a $1,500 scholarship to go on the trip, but I still need more than $2,500, and as a full-time volunteer in the ministry with no income, I have no idea where this money is going to come from. I need your help.

My Need

The bottom line

This trip to Egypt, Jordan, and Israel costs $5,145, which includes everything needed: airfare, country visas, hotels, transportation, meals, water, study materials, everything. Of that $5,145, subtracting the scholarship from the trip cost, I have to raise $2,833 in the next week, by May 25.

It is obvious that my immediate financial need is great. Additionally, my pool of contacts is limited, and another way you could help would be to get other people interested, direct them to this site, and ask them to donate. You know, help me “cast the net” a little wider? I am quite willing to have conversations with whomever wants to know more, including you… this is my passion! I have very little time to raise a lot of money, and I am so thankful for your help!

Some background details

In the summer of 2009 my beautiful 3-year-old car was totaled in a freak accident, but what could have turned out for so much harm and damage really was a huge blessing in disguise: without a $500 car payment and accompanying $200 insurance bill every month, I could finally conceive of going to Israel, and I did just that. Over the next year I saved up every penny I could, and with some support from friends in Wisconsin, Louisiana, and Texas I made it to Israel for the first time; I came back from that study trip changed, my love for the LORD pruned, my desire to spend time in his land stronger than ever. Today, however, I am in a very different situation. Whereas two years ago I had a nice salary I could pull from to fund study in Israel, today I am a full-time volunteer. In fact, right after that trip to Israel in 2010 I resigned from my job at Teen Mania, and ever since then I have received no income, choosing instead to trust the LORD to provide for my
needs while I simply follow his voice, first into a year of student-mentoring high school graduates as a Core Advisor, and now as one of thirty-four Ministry Teamers travelling from city to city around the country, putting on Acquire the Fire events every weekend. My eyes get to see thousands of teenagers giving their lives forever into Jesus’s hands… it’s incredible. My pockets, however, are as empty as they have ever been. Not only am I giving my time to this blessed ministry for free, but because of the schedule we have, living on a bus in between events, I really have no way to make money on the side. Unlike last time, I’m not going to be able to use my own hands to make this trip to Israel possible, I’m going to need help from hands like yours.

It is such a beautiful thing to see you walk by faith for God to provide everything you need to fulfill that which He's led you to do so that you may be equipped further to serve Him in your promised land full-time in the future. He has you exactly where He wants you to be -- fully dependent on Him who is able to do "immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within [you]" (Eph. 3:20) Read Eph. 1:15-23, which is my heart and prayer for you.

If you aren't already, begin to declare outloud by faith that you have all the provision you need, & that you will hike through Egypt, Jordan & Israel on this trip to learn all He's prepared in advance for you to learn & give glory to God. Romans 4:16-25 reminds us God is able to create something out of nothing because He "calls things that are not as though they were" so that His name is made great. You are, by your faith, Abraham's offspring. And, just as Abraham's un-wavering faith "that God had power to do what he had promised" "was credited to him as righteousness", so "also for us who believe in Him who raised Jesus our Lord from the dead." I know you're not looking to have anything credited to you. None-the-less, when He provides all you need for this trip He alone will be glorified & your faith in His power will be credited to you as such. So, proclaim out loud that which is not as though it were in all He leads you to do, for God's power will bring it to fulfillment.

I'm standing in faith with you & know that God has great things in store for you on this trip. I believe He'll give you divine appointments on this trip for later on as well as further direction for His plans & purposes for you to live & serve him there.
